Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Bluetooth Code Specification up to 5.3. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component Low Energy Pairing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a channel accessible vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-300. The product does not adequately verify the identity of actors at both ends of a communication channel, or does not adequately ensure the integrity of the channel, in a way that allows the channel to be accessed or influenced by an actor that is not an endpoint. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Bluetooth® Low Energy Pairing in Bluetooth Core Specification v4.0 through v5.3 may permit an unauthenticated MITM to acquire credentials with two pairing devices via adjacent access when the MITM negotiates Legacy Passkey Pairing with the pairing Initiator and Secure Connections Passkey Pairing with the pairing Responder and brute forces the Passkey entered by the user into the Initiator. The MITM attacker can use the identified Passkey value to complete authentication with the Responder via Bluetooth pairing method confusion.
The weakness was published 12/12/2022. The advisory is shared for download at bluetooth.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-25836 since 02/24/2022. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1557.
