Details
A vulnerability was found in mod_auth_openidc up to 2.4.12.1 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function oidc_validate_redirect_url of the component Regular Expression Handler. The manipulation of the argument logout with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:
mod_auth_openidc is an OpenID Certified™ authentication and authorization module for the Apache 2.x HTTP server. Versions prior to 2.4.12.2 are vulnerable to Open Redirect. When providing a logout parameter to the redirect URI, the existing code in oidc_validate_redirect_url() does not properly check for URLs that start with /\t, leading to an open redirect. This issue has been patched in version 2.4.12.2. Users unable to upgrade can mitigate the issue by configuring mod_auth_openidc to only allow redirection when the destination matches a given regular expression with OIDCRedirectURLsAllowed.
The weakness was released 12/14/2022 as GHSA-q6f2-285m-gr53. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-23527 since 01/19/2022.
