A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in phpGedView up to 2.65.1 (Content Management System). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file editconfig_gedcom.php. The manipulation of the argument gedcom_config with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in editconfig_gedcom.php for phpGedView 2.65.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files or execute arbitrary PHP programs on the server via .. (dot dot) sequences in the gedcom_config parameter.
The bug was discovered 01/30/2004. The weakness was shared 01/28/2004 by Cedric Cochin (Website). The advisory is shared at netvigilance.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-0127. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
