A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Mambo Open Source up to 4.5 (Content Management System). This issue affects an unknown function of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument return/mos_change_template with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in index.php in Mambo Open Source 4.5 stable 1.0.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) return or (2) mos_change_template parameters.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2004. The weakness was published 03/16/2004 by JeiAr with Gulftech (Website). The advisory is shared at gulftech.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-1825 since 05/04/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
