A vulnerability was found in MS Analysis Module 2.0 on PHP-Nuke and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file modules.php. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in MS Analysis module 2.0 for PHP-Nuke allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) screen parameter to modules.php, (2) module_name parameter to title.php, (3) sortby parameter to modules.php, or (4) overview parameter to modules.php.
The weakness was disclosed 03/22/2004 by Janek Vind with waraxe (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-1840 since 05/04/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
By approaching the search of inurl:modules.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
