Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Squid Web Proxy up to 5.6 (Firewall Software). This affects an unknown function of the component SSPI/SMB. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
A buffer over-read was discovered in libntlmauth in Squid 2.5 through 5.6. Due to incorrect integer-overflow protection, the SSPI and SMB authentication helpers are vulnerable to reading unintended memory locations. In some configurations, cleartext credentials from these locations are sent to a client. This is fixed in 5.7.
The weakness was presented 12/26/2022 as GHSA-394c-rr7q-6g78. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-41318 since 09/23/2022. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
