Details
A vulnerability has been found in MatrixSSL up to 4.5.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function matrixSslDecodeTls13 of the component TLS Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
MatrixSSL 4.0.4 through 4.5.1 has an integer overflow in matrixSslDecodeTls13. A remote attacker might be able to send a crafted TLS Message to cause a buffer overflow and achieve remote code execution. This is fixed in 4.6.0.
The weakness was shared 01/09/2023 as GHSA-fmwc-gwc5-2g29. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-43974 since 10/28/2022. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
