ip_route_input in Linux kernel 2.6 before 2.6.16.8 allows local users to cause a denial of service (panic) via a request for a route for a multicast IP address, which triggers a null dereference.
The bug was discovered 04/18/2006. The weakness was presented 04/19/2006 by Alexandra Kossovsky (Website). The advisory is available at kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-1525 since 03/30/2006. The attack can only be done within the local network. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
