Details
A vulnerability was found in Cadaver Webdav Client up to 0.24.5. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function ne_rfc1036_parse. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Heap-based buffer overflow in the ne_rfc1036_parse date parsing function for the neon library (libneon) 0.24.5 and earlier, as used by cadaver before 0.22, allows remote WebDAV servers to execute arbitrary code on the client.
The bug was discovered 05/19/2004. The weakness was published 05/19/2004 by Stefan Esser (Matt) with eMatters as Bug 1552 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.fedora.us. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-0398 since 04/13/2004. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
