Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in OpenStack (Cloud Software) (the affected version is unknown). Affected is an unknown code of the component VMDK Flat Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in OpenStack Cinder before 19.1.2, 20.x before 20.0.2, and 21.0.0; Glance before 23.0.1, 24.x before 24.1.1, and 25.0.0; and Nova before 24.1.2, 25.x before 25.0.2, and 26.0.0. By supplying a specially created VMDK flat image that references a specific backing file path, an authenticated user may convince systems to return a copy of that file's contents from the server, resulting in unauthorized access to potentially sensitive data.
The weakness was shared 01/27/2023. The advisory is shared for download at launchpad.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-47951 since 12/24/2022. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
