CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in GnuTLS. Impacted is an unknown function of the component RSA Handler. Executing a manipulation can lead to timing discrepancy. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-0361. The attack can be executed remotely. There is not any exploit available. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in GnuTLS (Network Encryption Software) (version unknown) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component RSA Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a timing discrepancy vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-208. Two separate operations in a product require different amounts of time to complete, in a way that is observable to an actor and reveals security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

A timing side-channel in the handling of RSA ClientKeyExchange messages was discovered in GnuTLS. This side-channel can be sufficient to recover the key encrypted in the RSA ciphertext across a network in a Bleichenbacher style attack. To achieve a successful decryption the attacker would need to send a large amount of specially crafted messages to the vulnerable server. By recovering the secret from the ClientKeyExchange message, the attacker would be able to decrypt the application data exchanged over that connection.

The weakness was released 02/15/2023 as 1050. The advisory is shared for download at gitlab.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-0361 since 01/18/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 253540 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-0361), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Applying the patch 22e3dc0c415654d0ac2170209e763175c7547069 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at gitlab.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (253540). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
