Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in MPlayer and xine-lib (Multimedia Player Software) (the affected version is unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component RTSP Client. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple buffer overflows in the Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) client for (1) MPlayer before 1.0pre4 and (2) xine lib (xine-lib) before 1-rc4, when playing Real RTSP (realrtsp) streams, allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via (a) long URLs, (b) long Real server responses, or (c) long Real Data Transport (RDT) packets.
The weakness was shared 08/18/2004 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at security.gentoo.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-0433 since 05/03/2004. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 06/07/2019).
