A vulnerability was found in Ethereal 0.10.1/0.10.2/0.10.3 (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the component SIP Message Handler. Ethereal 0.10.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via certain SIP messages between Hotsip servers and clients.
The bug was discovered 05/13/2004. The weakness was disclosed 03/22/2004 by Martin Regner (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ethereal.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-0504 since 06/01/2004. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available.
