A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Minio (affected version not known). This affects some unknown functionality of the component Deny Policy Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a permissions vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-281. The product does not preserve permissions or incorrectly preserves permissions when copying, restoring, or sharing objects, which can cause them to have less restrictive permissions than intended. Minio is a Multi-Cloud Object Storage framework. Affected versions do not correctly honor a `Deny` policy on ByPassGoverance. Ideally, minio should return "Access Denied" to all users attempting to DELETE a versionId with the special header `X-Amz-Bypass-Governance-Retention: true`. However, this was not honored instead the request will be honored and an object under governance would be incorrectly deleted. All users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.
The weakness was released 02/22/2023 as GHSA-c8fc-mjj8-fc63. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-25812 since 02/15/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1222 for this issue.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a7188bc9d0f0a5ae05aaf1b8126bcd3cb3fdc485 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
