A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Nextcloud 25.0.0/25.0.1/25.0.2 (Cloud Software). Nextcloud is an Open Source private cloud software. Versions 25.0.0 and above, prior to 25.0.3, are subject to Uncontrolled Resource Consumption. A user can configure a very long password, consuming more resources on password validation than desired. This issue is patched in 25.0.3 No workaround is available.
The weakness was released 02/25/2023 as GHSA-53q2-cm29-7j83. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-25816 since 02/15/2023. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 25.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
