A vulnerability has been found in Web Animations Password Protect (the affected version is unknown) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file index.asp/ChangePassword.asp/users_list.asp/users_add.asp. The manipulation of the argument ShowMsg with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in (1) index.asp, (2) ChangePassword.asp, (3) users_list.asp, (4) and users_add.asp in Password Protect allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the ShowMsg parameter.
The weakness was published 08/31/2004 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1648 since 02/21/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
