A vulnerability was found in CutePHP CuteNews 0.88/1.3/1.3.1/1.3.2/1.3.6 (Content Management System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument mod with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in index.php in CuteNews 1.3.6 and earlier allows remote attackers with Administrator, Editor, Journalist or Commenter privileges to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the mod parameter.
The weakness was presented 09/02/2004 by Exoduks (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-1659 since 02/21/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
