Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.17.1 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function qmp_get of the file drivers/soc/qcom/qcom_aoss.c. The manipulation of the argument of_find_device_by_node with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel before 5.17.2, drivers/soc/qcom/qcom_aoss.c does not release an of_find_device_by_node reference after use, e.g., with put_device.
The weakness was disclosed 03/01/2023 as 4b41a9d0fe3db5f91078a380f62f0572c3ecf2dd. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-22996 since 01/11/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
