A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows 2000/XP (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Heap-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Infotech Storage System Library (itss.dll) allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted CHM / ITS file that triggers the overflow while decompiling.
The bug was discovered 05/09/2006. The weakness was released 05/10/2006 by Rubén Santamarta with reversemode.com (Website). The advisory is shared at reversemode.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-2297 since 05/09/2006. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
