A vulnerability was found in runc up to 1.1.4. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file libcontainer/rootfs_linux.go of the component volume-mount Configuration. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-284. CVE summarizes:
runc through 1.1.4 has Incorrect Access Control leading to Escalation of Privileges, related to libcontainer/rootfs_linux.go. To exploit this, an attacker must be able to spawn two containers with custom volume-mount configurations, and be able to run custom images. NOTE: this issue exists because of a CVE-2019-19921 regression.
The weakness was presented 03/04/2023 as 2197. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-27561 since 03/03/2023. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
