Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenSIPS up to 3.1.7/3.2.4. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function stream_process of the component SDP Body Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
OpenSIPS is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) server implementation. Prior to versions 3.1.8 and 3.2.5, OpenSIPS crashes when a malformed SDP body is sent multiple times to an OpenSIPS configuration that makes use of the `stream_process` function. This issue was discovered during coverage guided fuzzing of the function `codec_delete_except_re`. By abusing this vulnerability, an attacker is able to crash the server. It affects configurations containing functions that rely on the affected code, such as the function `codec_delete_except_re`. This issue has been fixed in version 3.1.8 and 3.2.5.
The weakness was released 03/16/2023 as GHSA-3ghx-j39m-cw4f. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-27596 since 03/04/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
