Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (the affected version is unknown). Affected by this vulnerability is the function tipc_link_xmit of the component TIPC Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a excessive platform resource consumption within a loop vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-1050. The product has a loop body or loop condition that contains a control element that directly or
indirectly consumes platform resources, e.g. messaging, sessions, locks, or file
descriptors. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
A remote denial of service vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel’s TIPC kernel module. The while loop in tipc_link_xmit() hits an unknown state while attempting to parse SKBs, which are not in the queue. Sending two small UDP packets to a system with a UDP bearer results in the CPU utilization for the system to instantly spike to 100%, causing a denial of service condition.
The weakness was published 03/17/2023 as b77413446408fdd256599daf00d5be72b5f3e7c6. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-1390 since 03/14/2023. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
