CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Apache Tomcat up to 8.5.85/9.0.71/10.1.5/11.0.0-M2 (Application Server Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component RemoteIpFilter Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unprotected transport of credentials vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-523. Login pages do not use adequate measures to protect the user name and password while they are in transit from the client to the server. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

When using the RemoteIpFilter with requests received from a reverse proxy via HTTP that include the X-Forwarded-Proto header set to https, session cookies created by Apache Tomcat 11.0.0-M1 to 11.0.0.-M2, 10.1.0-M1 to 10.1.5, 9.0.0-M1 to 9.0.71 and 8.5.0 to 8.5.85 did not include the secure attribute. This could result in the user agent transmitting the session cookie over an insecure channel. Older, EOL versions may also be affected.

The weakness was published 03/22/2023. The advisory is shared for download at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-28708 since 03/21/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1557.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 210913 (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS : Tomcat vulnerabilities (USN-7106-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 8.5.86, 9.0.72, 10.1.6 or 11.0.0-M3 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (210913) and EUVD (EUVD-2023-0829). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
