Details
A vulnerability was found in Google TensorFlow up to 2.11.0 (Artificial Intelligence Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function EditDistance. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
TensorFlow is an open source platform for machine learning. Versions prior to 2.12.0 and 2.11.1 are vulnerable to integer overflow in EditDistance. A fix is included in TensorFlow version 2.12.0 and version 2.11.1.
The weakness was released 03/25/2023 as GHSA-7jvm-xxmr-v5cw. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-25662 since 02/09/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/25/2023).
