Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Francisco Burzi PHP-Nuke (Content Management System). This affects some unknown processing of the component Search Module. The manipulation of the argument admin with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
SQL injection vulnerability in PHP-Nuke 6.9 and earlier, and possibly 7.x, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary SQL code and gain sensitive information via (1) the category variable in the Search module or (2) the admin variable in the Web_Links module.
The weakness was presented 11/23/2004 by pokleyzz (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.info. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-0269. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 12598 (FreeBSD : Several vulnerabilities found in PHPNuke (147)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
