A vulnerability was found in XWiki xwiki-platform-attachment-ui (Content Management System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Attachment Selector. The manipulation of the argument property with an unknown input leads to a eval injection vulnerability. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes code syntax before using the input in a dynamic evaluation call (e.g. "eval"). XWiki Platform is a generic wiki platform offering runtime services for applications built on top of it. A registered user can perform remote code execution leading to privilege escalation by injecting the proper code in the "property" field of an attachment selector, as a gadget of their own dashboard. Note that the vulnerability does not impact comments of a wiki. The vulnerability has been patched in XWiki 13.10.11, 14.4.8, 14.10.2, 15.0-rc-1. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
The weakness was released 04/19/2023 as GHSA-3hjg-cghv-22ww. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-29519 since 04/07/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 13.10.11, 14.4.8, 14.10.2 or 15.0-rc-1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5e8725b4272cd3e5be09d3ca84273be2da6869c1 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
