A vulnerability has been found in MediaWiki up to 1.3.11 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file php.rar of the component mod_mime. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. MediaWiki 1.3.8 and earlier, when used with Apache mod_mime, does not properly handle files with two file extensions, such as .php.rar, which allows remote attackers to upload and execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 12/15/2004. The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2004 by Jeremy Bae (Website). The advisory is available at marc.info. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1405 since 02/12/2005.
