A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player up to 2.0.6 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects some unknown processing of the file requests/vlm_cmd.xml of the component Parameter Handler. The manipulation of the argument command with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the HTTP Interface in VideoLAN VLC Media Player before 2.0.7 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) command parameter to requests/vlm_cmd.xml, (2) dir parameter to requests/browse.xml, or (3) URI in a request, which is returned in an error message through share/lua/intf/http.lua.

Upgrading to version 2.0.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch bf02b8dd211d5a52aa301a9a2ff4e73ed8195881 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.videolan.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
