Details
A vulnerability has been found in libvirt up to 1.1.2 (Virtualization Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function remoteClientFreeFunc of the file daemon/remote.c of the component ACL Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The remoteClientFreeFunc function in daemon/remote.c in libvirt before 1.1.3, when ACLs are used, does not set an identity, which causes event handler removal to be denied and remote attackers to cause a denial of service (use-after-free and crash) by registering an event handler and then closing the connection.
The weakness was disclosed 04/22/2023. The advisory is shared for download at libvirt.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-4399 since 06/12/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely.
