A vulnerability was found in QEMU up to 2.3.x (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function send_control_msg of the file hw/char/virtio-serial-bus.c of the component Virtio Control Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Buffer overflow in the send_control_msg function in hw/char/virtio-serial-bus.c in QEMU before 2.4.0 allows guest users to cause a denial of service (QEMU process crash) via a crafted virtio control message.
