Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in IBM Net.Data 7.0/7.2. This affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in db2www CGI interpreter in IBM Net.Data 7 and 7.2 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a macro filename, which is not properly handled by error emssages such as "DTWP001E."
The bug was discovered 04/11/2003. The weakness was disclosed 01/26/2004 by Carsten Eiram as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-1442 since 02/13/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
After even before and not, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 290 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (14925), Exploit-DB (23598), SecurityFocus (BID 9488†), OSVDB (3712†) and Secunia (SA10709†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
