Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.3 (Operating System). This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component ksmbd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ksmbd, a high-performance in-kernel SMB server. The specific flaw exists within the processing of SMB2_LOGOFF and SMB2_CLOSE commands. The issue results from the lack of proper locking when performing operations on an object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the kernel.
The weakness was published 05/18/2023. The advisory is available at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-32258 since 05/05/2023. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
