A vulnerability has been found in IPSwitch WS FTP Server 4.0.2 (File Transfer Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file iftpmgr.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. Ipswitch WS_FTP Server 4.0.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary programs as SYSTEM by using the SITE command to modify certain iFtpSvc options that are handled by iftpmgr.exe.
The weakness was published 12/31/2004 by Hugh Mann (Website). The advisory is shared at secunia.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-1885 since 05/04/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
