A vulnerability has been found in Postnuke 0.726 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument timezoneoffset with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
SQL injection vulnerability in PostNuke 7.2.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL via (1) the sif parameter to index.php in the Comments module or (2) timezoneoffset parameter to changeinfo.php in the Your_Account module.
The weakness was disclosed 04/14/2004 by pokleyzz (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.grok.org.uk. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1949 since 05/04/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is possible to download the exploit at scan-associates.net. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
