A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in S9y Serendipity 0.7 Beta1 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown code block of the file comment.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Comment.php in Serendipity 0.7 beta1, and possibly other versions before 0.7-beta3, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTML and PHP code via the (1) email or (2) username field.
The bug was discovered 09/28/2004. The weakness was published 12/31/2004 by aCiDBiTS (Website). The advisory is available at lists.grok.org.uk. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2004-2157 since 07/10/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. Upgrading to version 0.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
