A vulnerability has been found in PTC Vuforia Studio and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file appConfig.json of the component Project Import Handler. The manipulation of the argument resourceDirectory with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Before importing a project into Vuforia, a user could modify the “resourceDirectory” attribute in the appConfig.json file to be a different path.
The weakness was published 06/08/2023 as icsa-23-131-13. The advisory is available at cisa.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-29502 since 04/24/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
