Details
A vulnerability was found in Google Go on Unix (Programming Language Software) (the affected version unknown). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a external control of critical state data vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-642. The product stores security-critical state information about its users, or the product itself, in a location that is accessible to unauthorized actors. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
On Unix platforms, the Go runtime does not behave differently when a binary is run with the setuid/setgid bits. This can be dangerous in certain cases, such as when dumping memory state, or assuming the status of standard i/o file descriptors. If a setuid/setgid binary is executed with standard I/O file descriptors closed, opening any files can result in unexpected content being read or written with elevated privileges. Similarly, if a setuid/setgid program is terminated, either via panic or signal, it may leak the contents of its registers.
The weakness was released 06/09/2023. The advisory is shared for download at go.dev. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-29403 since 04/05/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 01/07/2025).
