Kratos SpectralNet Device with SpectralNet Narrowband up to 1.7.4 Password command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Kratos SpectralNet Device with SpectralNet Narrowband up to 1.7.4. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Password Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

A remote command injection issues exists in the web server of the Kratos SpectralNet device with SpectralNet Narrowband (NB) before 1.7.5. As an admin user, an attacker can send a crafted password in order to execute Linux commands as the root user.

The weakness was released 06/12/2023. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-38156 since 08/11/2022. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

Upgrading to version 1.7.5 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2022-40753). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
