A vulnerability was found in Phorum 5.0.11 (Forum Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file search.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Phorum 5.0.11 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTML or web script via search.php. NOTE: some sources have reported that the affected file is read.php, but this is inconsistent with the vendor s patch.

The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2004 by Positive Technologies with Positive Technologies (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2241 since 07/17/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
