A vulnerability was found in Invision Power Services IP.Board 1.3 (Forum Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument pop with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Invision Power Board 1.3 Final allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script as other users via the pop parameter in a chat action to index.php.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2004 by Rafel Ivgi (Website). The advisory is available at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-2279 since 07/19/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
