Details
A vulnerability was found in Safe Software FME Server and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A directory traversal vulnerability in Safe Software FME Server before 2022.2.5 allows an attacker to bypass validation when editing a network-based resource connection, resulting in the unauthorized reading and writing of arbitrary files. Successful exploitation requires an attacker to have access to a user account with write privileges. FME Flow 2023.0 is also a fixed version.
The weakness was disclosed 06/23/2023. The advisory is shared for download at community.safe.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-35801 since 06/17/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
