Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (affected version unknown). This issue affects the function ipvlan_process_v4_outbound/ipvlan_process_v6_outbound of the file drivers/net/ipvlan/ipvlan_core.c of the component ipvlan Network Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux Kernel ipvlan network driver can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. The out-of-bounds write is caused by missing skb->cb initialization in the ipvlan network driver. The vulnerability is reachable if CONFIG_IPVLAN is enabled. We recommend upgrading past commit 90cbed5247439a966b645b34eb0a2e037836ea8e.
The weakness was published 06/28/2023. The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-3090 since 06/03/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/26/2024).
