A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (the affected version unknown). This issue affects the function inflate_buffer of the file ui/vnc-clipboard.c of the component VNC. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. A flaw was found in the QEMU built-in VNC server while processing ClientCutText messages. A wrong exit condition may lead to an infinite loop when inflating an attacker controlled zlib buffer in the `inflate_buffer` function. This could allow a remote authenticated client who is able to send a clipboard to the VNC server to trigger a denial of service.
The weakness was shared 07/04/2023. The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-3255 since 06/14/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
