Details
A vulnerability was found in Macromedia ColdFusion 5.0/6.0. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown functionality of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Macromedia ColdFusion MX before 6.1 does not restrict the size of error messages, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption and crash) by sending repeated GET or POST requests that trigger error messages that use long strings of data.
The weakness was presented 12/31/2004 by K. K. Mookhey (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2004-2505 since 10/25/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
