A vulnerability was found in F-Secure Anti-Virus up to 2006 (Anti-Malware Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Scan Network Devices. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. F-Secure Anti-Virus 2003 through 2006 and other versions, Internet Security 2003 through 2006, and Service Platform for Service Providers 6.x and earlier does not scan files contained on removable media when "Scan network drives" is disabled, which allows remote attackers to bypass anti-virus controls.
The weakness was disclosed 06/28/2006 with F-Secure (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at f-secure.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-3490 since 07/10/2006. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at f-secure.com.
