A vulnerability was found in ID Software Quake II Server up to 3.19. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. Quake II server before R1Q2, as used in multiple products, allows remote attackers cause a denial of service (application crash) via a modified client that asks the server to send data stored at a negative array offset, which is not handled when processing Configstrings and Baselines.
The weakness was published 10/27/2004 by Richard Stanway (Website). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-2592 since 11/29/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
