CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Astats 1.6.5. This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. This could allow an attacker to cause the product to operate on unauthorized files. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:

aStats 1.6.5 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on (1) the aStats-Graphic-Signature-Generation file and (2) certain PNG image files.

The weakness was presented 12/29/2004 by Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pena (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at shellcode.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2605 since 11/29/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

It is declared as highly functional.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (18698), SecurityFocus (BID 12128†), OSVDB (12632†) and Secunia (SA13679†). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
