OX Software OX App Suite JDK DNS Cache server-side request forgery

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in OX Software OX App Suite and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component JDK DNS Cache. The manipulation results in server-side request forgery. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2023-26438. The attack can be launched remotely. No exploit exists. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in OX Software OX App Suite (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code of the component JDK DNS Cache. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

External service lookups for a number of protocols were vulnerable to a time-of-check/time-of-use (TOCTOU) weakness, involving the JDK DNS cache. Attackers that were timing DNS cache expiry correctly were able to inject configuration that would bypass existing network deny-lists. Attackers could exploit this weakness to discover the existence of restricted network infrastructure and service availability. Improvements were made to include deny-lists not only during the check of the provided connection data, but also during use. No publicly available exploits are known.

The weakness was disclosed 08/02/2023 as oxas-adv-2023-0003. The advisory is shared for download at documentation.open-xchange.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-26438 since 02/22/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at software.open-xchange.com.
