A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 2.4.x (Operating System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function copyin_string of the file drivers/sbus/char/openprom.c. Multiple integer overflows in Sbus PROM driver (drivers/sbus/char/openprom.c) for the Linux kernel 2.4.x up to 2.4.27, 2.6.x up to 2.6.7, and possibly later versions, allow local users to execute arbitrary code by specifying (1) a small buffer size to the copyin_string function or (2) a negative buffer size to the copyin function.
The bug was discovered 06/30/2004. The weakness was disclosed 06/29/2004 by Sean (Website). The advisory is shared at securiteam.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2731 since 10/08/2007. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
