A vulnerability has been found in OPNsense up to 23.6 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file /system/halt of the component System Halt API. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. A Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) in the System Halt API (/system/halt) of OPNsense before 23.7 allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via a crafted GET request.
The weakness was published 08/10/2023. The advisory is shared for download at logicaltrust.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-38999 since 07/25/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 23.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5d68f43d1f254144831881fc87d885eed120cf3c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
